About Us
Our Journey with Maltese puppies started in 2008 when my wife Amy and I wanted a small dog for our family.
After much research and deliberation, we chose our first Maltese baby. We named him Sammy and as of this writing, he is still with us and enjoying his golden years. As you can imagine he quickly became part of the family and our love for him really grew.
It was not long after that we realized it would be best that Sammy had a friend to keep him company when we couldn’t be there. We purchased a Male named Rocco who was the sweetest little boy you would ever want to know.
We are a small in-home breeder that above all takes great pride in being a good steward to the breed.
We do our best to adhere to the guidelines of both the AKC and the American Maltese Association. We have a large property in the Wake Forest Area of North Carolina and have a number of areas where our Maltese can run and play both inside and outside. We even have a large covered area to keep our babies dry even when the weather isn’t the sunniest.
More than anything we strive to keep our dogs with us as much as possible. Maltese thrive in peaceful living conditions and can be drawn to one person so the more calm and peaceful the environment the more emotionally stable your Maltese will be. Maltese do not always do well in loud environments where noise and chaotic circumstances are present. We believe that in addition to being loving, gentle, and loyal the Maltese is best stimulated by being part of our family and everyday lifestyle.
One of our core beliefs as pet owners is that dogs should never be routinely left alone for periods of time that exceed 3-4 hours without human interaction.
We know that realistically that can be next to impossible at times but we go to great lengths to ensure that it doesn’t happen often. We like to see all our puppies and all dogs in our care have as much one-on-one care as possible.
We believe that it is paramount to have dogs mentally and physically stimulated at least a few times a day for 15-30 minutes at a minimum. Too often dogs get left alone for 8-10 hours a day because of busy work schedules. This certainly adds stress and loneliness to our canine friends and creates poor behaviors and habits.
There are a lot of variations in how folks go about breeding and caring for Maltese as well as other breeds.
We are a small in-home breeder and as such each one of our dogs is loved and kept in the home and as part of the family. You will never come here and see dogs kept in cages and pens all day long with minimal human contact. Because our dogs are cared for as much as they are and are trained like they are it’s much easier for them to emotionally and physically be bred and carry puppies so successfully. Our dogs are not exposed to stressful situations like they are at other breeders. All the dogs that we own are purebred AKC registered Maltese.
We do at times work with other breeders in attempts to mix some of the best Maltese standards together to capture the best of the bloodlines. Breeding dogs is a science but not an exact one. We are patient and only breed our females after they have gone through a few heat cycles and have had enough time for them to fully develop. Typically we do not breed our females before they are 2 years old and don’t breed more than 4 times before the age of 8. We do not believe in rushing this process as a well-matured female will be able to carry her and care for her puppies better.
Purebred puppies can have imperfections to the standards that aren’t noticeable until much later in life but we do guarantee our puppies from life-threatening genetic defects for 1 year. Our breeding philosophies are simple we want to breed Maltese that meet the basic AKC standards. Our Malteses all come with AKC registration certifying the puppy as authentic unless the parents so choose to opt out.
Our policies and procedures for puppy adoption are constructed to protect you and your new puppy.
Our policies for puppy adoption include a contract and deposit. Our contracts outline each of our responsibilities and commitments to the agreement of purchase and our constructed in such a way that we both are protected. Our contracts are executed once a puppy deposit is agreed upon and received. We take multiple forms of payment and look for this process to be easy and pain-free. Our contracts lay out the overall terms of the sale, our guarantees, and delivery arrangements. We go to great lengths to review with our customers at the time of delivery all the details to ensure we all understand the terms 100%.
Owning a dog and caring for its mental and physical health is a process that starts on day one and can go on for years. Some Maltese have lived to be over 20 while the average lifespan because they are so small is about 15 years. We truly love and care for the breed so much that we like our customers to know that we will always make ourselves available for questions and support. Having been through so many, health, training, and different circumstances with the breed we will always be here for our customers! We are always just a phone call, text, or email away.
